Aida García Pereira was born in Tenerife (Canary Islands) in 1998. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology from the Universidad del País Vasco (EHU). During her studies, she completed an internship at Gaiker, where she worked on detecting genotoxic compounds by analyzing micronucleus formation through flow cytometry. This experience allowed her to develop skills in cell culture and flow cytometry, among other techniques.
Afterwards, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of the Basque Country (EHU), which she completed in 2023. Her master’s project focused on developing a cell-based assay to assess the skin sensitization potential of different compounds by measuring the expression of cell surface markers in THP-1 cells.
In 2023, Aida joined the Glycotechnology Lab to start her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Niels C. Reichardt and Dr. Paloma Gómez Fernández (Gaiker). Her current research focuses on developing glycoconjugate vaccines based on virus-like particles (VLPs).
